Adult acne is common during stressful times or changes in hormones levels such as menopause or starting or switching birth control pills. The best way to prevent and treat adult acne is to clean your skin every day. Use warm water with a good gentle cleanser twice a day. Retinoid creams and benzoyl peroxide also work well as acne fighters. Use cosmetic products with salicylic acid or have non-comedogenic (don’t clog the pores) and non-acnergenic (don’t cause breakouts).
Prescriptive medications include spironolactone and isotretinoin. Laser therapy is another treatment option when other less invasive methods fail.

When all else fails see a dermatologist for more aggressive treatments.
